What Is Rosehip?

Rosehip is the fruit of the wild rose plant (Rosa canina), known for its reddish-orange color and firm texture. It ripens in autumn and is found growing naturally across many regions in Turkey. Rosehips can be used both fresh and dried and are traditionally processed into tea, jam, marmalade, or syrup.

Characteristics of Rosehip

Rosehip grows in natural highland environments and is harvested once it fully ripens. After collection, the fruits are cleaned and dried under controlled conditions. Once dried, they are typically available as whole, crushed, or powdered, and are widely appreciated for their mildly tart flavor. This makes rosehip a popular choice in herbal tea blends and fruit-based recipes.

How to Prepare Rosehip Tea

To prepare rosehip tea, start by rinsing the dried rosehips and slightly crushing them. Add the crushed fruit to a pot of hot water and simmer gently for about 10–15 minutes. It’s important to keep the lid closed during steeping to maintain the aroma and consistency.

Additional ingredients such as cinnamon or cloves can be added for extra flavor. The tea can be consumed warm or chilled, depending on preference. It may be sweetened with honey or consumed plain.
